Kamal Haasan wants SC to intervene in sedition case

“I request as a citizen that our higher courts move in to uphold justice with democracy and quash the case emanating from Bihar,” he said.

Last week, a FIR was filed in Bihar’s Muzaffarpur against personalities, including directors Mani Ratnam, Aparna Sen, Adoor Gopalakrishnan, and writer-columnist Ramchandra Guha for alleged sedition over a letter they wrote to the PM in July, voicing concern over growing incidents of mob lynching. In the letter, they had asked the Prime Minister to stop lynching of Muslims, Dalits and other minorities, while stressing there was “no democracy without dissent.” It had also noted that the ‘Jai Shri Ram’ slogan was reduced to a “provocative war cry.”
